Tearfund is an international aid and development agency that is one of the standing members of the UK's Disaster Emergency Committee (DEC). Riverside has had an association with Tearfund since the 1970's and has been supporting Tearfund projects across the world throughout this time. Many Church members also support Tearfund on an individual basis through sponsorship of children and projects as well as through working as volunteers for Tearfund. Over the last 4 years, Riverside has been supporting a specific project that works with street children in Malawi. In addition to financial support, Riverside sent a team of workers to Malawi in 2007 to help with the practical upkeep of the project premises and to work with children in local schools. Our support of this project has just come to a conclusion, but discussions are underway with Tearfund with a view towards being linked with another project through Tearfund's 'connected churches'.
